28 is Greeaaaat

JULY 7- My 28th Birthday

We started off the day like any other day. I woke up and cleaned the house. Aljay left to work. The kids got started with their usual routine. Nothing crazy.

Before Aljay left for work I asked if we could drop him off at work and take the car to go do things and his reply was "No I have to use the car."

My reply "oh ok".

What I really meant was- oh hell I'm going to be at home all day with the kids and do the same ol thing on MY BIRTHDAY!!! Frek! Especially since the weather was so nice. It's not that turning 28 was making me want to go out and celebrate, but I did want to just get away from the house and do something simple.

After a few minutes I calmed myself down and decided that I was going to have a good day. Aint got time fo a pity party. I'm too pregnant fo dat. But lesbehonest...a part of me was still longing to leave the house and do something different!

We went about our day anyway doing the usual chores, playing, and whatnot.

Around 5pm Lola shows up to pick up the kids. She tells me that Aljay prepped a bag for the kids and that it was in the shoe closet. Ooh sneaky sneaky. He's got something planned! Woohoo! I was starting to get a bit excited.

With the kids gone, I went up stairs put some decent stain-free clothes on, put my eyebrows on, brushed my hair, and waited for Aljay to get home. #winning #howmomsgetdressedup My excitement was building and the anticipation was growing as I wondered what Aljay had up his sleeve.

6pm- Aljay walks through the front door and says "are you ready to go?". I took a look at his shirt and asked "what have you been doing all day?" He just shrugged, ignored my questions, and said "let's go?" He looked like he had been making otai or cooking or something-but I was more distracted by the fact that he didn't even say 'Happy Birthday' or 'You look beautiful' or 'My Queen I am here to serve you' (oh huh? maybe going too far? lol). Again I refocus and tell myself just be cool...enjoy the evening...it's a beautiful day.

We take a 5 minute drive down to Culver's (a burger joint also known for their bomb frozen custard and fish-n-chips).

Am I thrilled? Umm...not entirely (just being honest).

Am I grateful? Yes. A date with my hubby without kids is always a win.

But it was really hard to stay positive and grateful and all that good stuff when Aljay was constantly looking at his phone and texting his "coworkers"!!!! And I could tell that his mind was super distracted! Irrits.

When we finished our food, Aljay told me that we could go home and have a nice at-home movie night with just me and him. Oh okay..that's kinda cool... I guess. Right? Intimate..simple...just us. I was really winning with my positive attitude.

As we pulled up to the house I see a tent, smoke from the grill, our neighbors, and a few of our close friends! This niggah actually pulled off a surprise BBQ for me!!! I was fully surprised!! More so at the fact that Aljay was able to keep it a secret from me. I realized that I had seen all the signs but chose to ignore them in efforts to contain my hormonal instability that could have easily gone from irrational crazy preggo lady to laid back care-free preggo. My efforts to remain positive really paid off I guess. #iogivemyselfprops #cuzican #itsmybirthday

The real credit goes to my awesome hubby and everyone that helped him to pull it off! When we arrived Toa and Vjal were on the grill with Mike and Nate.  Michael and Joy Levi brought their jumper for the kids (great idea!). Sis. Levi made her delicious sapasui. Lola and Nate were there with their kids (sneaky accomplice). Siaosi and Selesi were there with their 3 little ones (that was a surprise! Aljay ran into Seles the night before..small world!). Omi and the kids were able to make it a little later, and our neighbors were all there. Lil and her family weren't able to make it due to a car accident, but I'm just happy Ced was safe and they were okay. The food was on point! And yes there was otai (which explains the pink stains on Aljay's shirt). It was a beautiful evening. Not too hot, nice cool breeze.

Good food + good company +beautiful weather =
great way to celebrate my 28th!

And to top it off Samoa decided to make history and host a rugby match between Manu Samoa and All Blacks. I don't even follow rubgy but seeing my facebook newsfeed be flooded with posts made me really excited. I couldn't help but take pride and jump on the bandwagon lol. Even though my team lost, the excitement and pride generated was nothing less than epic and impossible to ignore.
