Parent Moment: Leila's first crush

Story time!!

OK so Leila has been little miss speller- sounding out every word she sees (signs, books, shirts, anyything!!). She will ask you how to spell at least 235 different words a day (or so it feels like). 

I had noticed that she kept asking me how to spell JT...and I was like "is this is trick question?"  I gave her the look like you know how to spell it so stop asking! But it would keep coming up on different days. 

So one night as we were waiting for the boys to finish their shower I asked her who JT was. She grabbed her head and said "MOM I can't stop my brain! I keep thinking and thinking and then my brain changes to LOVE!"

I was like "as in love like how you love your family?"

Her reply- "No like boyfriend and girlfriend!! But I don't want a girlfriend cause I'm a girl and I don't like girls but I like a boyfriend!"

I could almost hear my heart beating as my chest began to get hot and the voice in my head was screaming KEEP CALM KEEP CALM DON'T REACT WITH YOUR FIRST EMOTIONS!!!! 

So I calmly asked her if she had a crush on JT and she gave me a very shy and slightly embarrassed 'yes'. I told her it was okay and that she can have a boyfriend when she gets older.
She was like "OH yeah I know. I can kiss a boy when I'm 30. Oh wait 40....OH no 50. I think that's what Dad said".  Then she started counting from 5 to 50 and after a few seconds put both her hands on her head and was like "but that's going to take too long!!!!" hahaha....Se malo Leila! 

In my mind I was thinking....yeah we'll keep this to ourselves until your Dad is old enough to hear it. But then I remembered that I don't keep secrets from Aljay haha. Sooooo...

I told Aljay about it a few days after and his first reaction was "OH HELL NO!!!" hahaha. Followed by "now I want to go to her class and see who this JT fwam is!" LOL...

I secretly want to go also hee hehe...just to see what he looks like. She might just like him cause 'all the other girls like him'. 

About a week later he decided he'd talk to Leila about it when they were alone. So he picked her up from school one day but chickened out ahhahah. That night before we went to bed he was like "I was going to say something but then I got scared! I didn't want to embarrass her or overreact" hahah. 

I started giving him advice (ioe cause I'm so experienced haha) and saw him on his phone and told him "Hey put your phone away, we're talking" He then showed me what he was looking at on instagram..GUNS. hahahah


Oh Leila...way to blindside us. Even though we know this is just a minor phase and this too shall pass...we were just NOT ready for it so soon. 

But its okay because I am comforted by the assurance that....

1. I know the lines of communication are open
2. She feels comfortable talking to me about anything
3. She already knows she can't kiss boys till she's 50.

Start the year off with two volleyball tournaments for Leila. The picture below is of her and Isa, the only 14-year-olds on their U16 team.  Fires are destroying parts of California, the Palisade area experiencing the worst of it. Texas and some of the southern states are experiencing some of the worst snow/ice conditions. TikTok is on the verge of being banned, President Trump is continuously passing executive orders that are sending people into panic.  Saleima made a list of the disasters and warned us that Jesus was on His way.  Sefa moved up to the Teachers quorum and was ordained by his Dad, Uncle Dennis, and Uncle Ben. He's growing so quickly and I love seeing his growth. They have a great group of young men. Being Prepared For These Times

Auuuu that title sounds like I'm trying to write a General Conference talk or something hahaha. Probably still on the GC vibe from the beginning of the month lol. Anyways... So this pandemic that's going on, it's been something else! It has put the whole world on lock down. So many lives have been affected. I've written quite a bit in my journal, but I wanted to make sure to write about how the Lord has prepared our family specifically for this time. Looking back just in February and March, we can easily see how the Lord had orchestrated parts of our lives.  In February Aljay secured an art collector who commissioned several art pieces. His deposit was the cushion that brought a sense of financial security when we entered this lock-down life.  Towards the end of February, my bosses had heard about school closures in Seattle and decided that we should have a plan in place for our advisers to work remotely in case the schools had to close. 2025 February

Leila - Volleyball and more Volleyball  Leila had two tournaments in February. This club season has challenged her in a good way. She wants to play the outside hitter position but is playing on a 16s team (meaning older girls with more experience) and is sitting in the 3rd spot for out side hitting. To get to the 1 or 2 spot she needs more reps, more practice, and more individual coaching. We're seeing improvements each week, but are planning to set aside money for her to do more 1:1 coaching.  These tournaments are no joke. They are allllll day. 6am - 7pm sometimes. 1-day, 2-day, and sometimes 3-day tourneys. The mental stamina it takes as a parent ahahahahh is a real thing! Trying to say the right things to keep your athlete focused, motivated, and locked in is tough. There are so many things that are over stimulating or compounding: - the non stop sound of whistles and girl's cheering/screaming - the smell of swass in the building that increases as the tournament progresses...
