Our 2020 Family Goals
Happy New Year!
In our little corner of the world we welcomed the New Year with the arrival of our beautiful baby Salani. Couldn't have asked for a better way to end 2019 and start 2020. Especially since on the world scale, the New Year started off craaazzy. Only a week into the New year and
- USA and Iran are on the brink of a War
- Australia is on fire (has been for months now)
- Puerto Rico experienced a big earthquake
- Indonesia is experiences terrible flooding
- Global warming and climate issues are evident across several parts of the world
- Measles outbreak in the South Pacific is still taking lives
and I'm pretty sure there is more happening that I'm not aware of. But I can't help but think about everything the Prophet has been warning us about and all that he has admonished us to do.
So for the 2020 year, the theme for our Fuimaono goals will be centered on
CONSISTENCY
for us it this means
being on church on time
being on church on time
daily family scripture study
daily family prayer
eating healthy
physical activity
developing our talents
participating in more service opportunities
and to basically
always
keep
trying
always
keep
trying
CONSISTENCY will be the running theme throughout the year, but we also decided to scaffold our big goals this year by breaking them down and having smaller goals that we'll examine on a monthly basis. On Dec 30th, we sat down as a family and decided on our goals for January. Here are our family goals for the month of January.
If you're wondering where the social and intellectual goals are, well they're not the focus right now lol. I really wanted the kids to take the lead on what goals they felt we needed to focus on first. It was fun to sit down with them and talk about things they wanted to see change. They also each have one personal goal that they want to work on this month like helping out more, doing chores without being asked, using kind language, etc.
My Current Health Status
With this last pregnancy being riddled with high blood pressure and gestational diabetes, we decided that Salani will be our last baby. Pregnancy and birthing are taking a toll on my body. During these last two pregnancies, my blood pressures were at the point where I could've had a stroke, heart attack, or seizures. What scares me the most is that there aren't often any signs for high blood pressure (or hypertension). My body tends to tolerate higher pressures which isn't good. It's scary.
I also don't want to develop type 2 diabetes, which I am more likely to develop due to my history with gestational diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is not only unhealthy, it's fetchin expensive. Insulin is not cheap here in the US.
Aljay's Current Health Status
Just like every time that I've been pregnant, Aljay fell off the bandwagon and has just been feeling yuck. And typically when he gets back on the healthy train, he cuts everything off cold turkey and goes on a strict diet. So his challenge is more so to make a lifestyle change instead of doing an extreme diet. Developing healthy habits for not just himself but for our family is not always easy for him.
But we have six beautiful kids that we want to be around for, have energy for, and just enjoy life with! And yes, we want them to develop healthy habits as well.
Looking back
The past decade has been amazing! It feels like we just ended the first quarter of our family journey where we've established our family (like all members are now here on earth) and now we're moving together as a team (#teamFuimaono) to growing, reaching higher ground, fortifying our home, and building a solid foundation.
Here we go 2020!!!
Mom and Dad Goals
For Aljay and I our main focus this year is our health.
