Health Journey | Dec 2024

So...per my usual bad timing, I decided two weeks before Christmas to cut my sugar. LOL

See what had happened was.......

Dr's Appointment

I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor the week of Thanksgiving and my A1C had increased from 6.9 to 9.5%. I was so mad at myself. The doctor prescribed me jardiance which was $700 AFTER insurance 😶😱😮for a 1-month supply. Yeah NO. I did not pay for it. I let my doctor know to switch my prescription, which she did. She wrote me a prescription for farxiga which was $450 AFTER insurance for a 1-months supply....to which I said no thank you.

Doctor Sandra

So I decided to take matters into my own hands. Haha haha. I put on my imaginary doctor's white coat, did some research, and learned about berberine being a natural alternative.  I purchased a 1-month supply for $35 from Just Ingredients and have been taking it twice daily before my meals.

I cut out added sugar, cut down on processed foods, and got a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) through my insurance. The CGM is sooo helpful. I can see in real-time how my body is reacting to foods and if my glucose is within range. But then I went swimming and yeah it came off lol so I'm going to have to order another one and use my glucose monitor (prick my finger kine) for now.

I also started the process of getting sleep-tested to see if I need a CPAP because Aljay told me that I wake him up sometimes because I'm gasping for air and that I snore loudly. I did a preliminary sleep test at home and just heard back that I will need to do an in-lab sleep test to see if I need a CPAP. Not the cutest thing, but....sleep is important so yeah I'm going to address it.

I was also up one night doom scrolling through tiktok and bought a mouth guard lol So I'm curious to see if it helps and low key can't wait for it to arrive in the mail.

Progress

The good news is, after two weeks of cutting out sugar, I dropped 8 pounds! That kind of change really is motivating. I wasn't expecting those results so quickly, so when I stepped on the scale just randomly one day I was shocked to see where my weight was.

Weigh in - Nov 2024:  225 lbs

Weign in - Dec 2024:  217 lbs  - 8 lbs 🙌

So now what?

I'm still taking my blood pressure medications.

I'm still cutting out my sugar. *Yes I do give myself permission on Christmas Day to enjoy a treat here and there, but nothing like how I used to overdo treats before.

I'm doing my best to exercise and get steps in at work.

My biggest focus is getting healthy greens and protein in my diet every day.
