New Family Traditions
With the bits of driving I do for work, I've decided to give podcasts a try. Who knew I'd really enjoy it! Below are the few I've really enjoyed and have found so uplifting and inspiring.
One of things I've been inspired to do is to try these two new family traditions! Of course every year I always have the best intentions to start/continue family traditions and every year is a hit or miss. I'm pretty excited about these and I'm going to give it a go! Here are two we are going to try this year.
This year I want to start a Thanksgiving tradition that I'm calling "In Remembrance".
The idea is that every November - December we will take the months to focus on things that we need to remember-- this can be principles, people, things we are grateful for, attributes, whatever you want it to be. Last year I was so moved by the movie Coco and wanted to create my own ofrenda but seeing how we aint Mexican lol, I decided to take the same concept and adjust it for our family.
So this year our Remembrance tradition will be focused on loved ones who have passed. We will put up pictures of our loved ones who are on the other side of the veil and learn all about them. I thought a good place to start would be with the special people our kids are named after. This includes Grandma Tauaneai, Grandma Saleima, Mama Metuli, and cousin Lapreal. We'll start there and continue to add on.
So what it is...is you collect all the loose change you might have and then on Christmas Eve or near Christmas day, you drop it off to a family or individual you think could use a little pick me up. You can collect coins all year, all month, whatever works. We're off to a slow start, so we'll do it for a month and see how it goes.
I pitched this to my family and they asked that instead of giving a jar of loose change, can we take the coins and buy them a gift or give them cash/visa card lol. Other than that one request, they were on board! So as a family we will be prayerful and mindful of others and ask Heavenly Father to guide us to a family/person in need.
I'm excited to do this! Hopefully the kids will too. I'll definitely pick up a copy of the Christmas Jars book and see if we can watch the movie as well! *okay but who am I? Two new traditions in the same year? lol

Christmas Jars
This one was adopted from the book (and now movie) The Christmas Jars. I haven't even read the book or seen the movie, but the author was interviewed on the All In podcast and I loved the idea of doing Christmas jars as a family tradition. So what it is...is you collect all the loose change you might have and then on Christmas Eve or near Christmas day, you drop it off to a family or individual you think could use a little pick me up.
