Journey to Getting Healthy starts with our Checkups!
So with us having healthcare benefits through UVU again, we decided to really take advantage and be proactive with our health. This is the plan I have in my head---
- February - Checkups/Physicals
- March - Dentist, Optomotrist
- April - Follow ups
I'm happy to report we got our checkups in February and okaaaaa......
So there are the obvious things right? like we need to make the lifestyle changes (exercise more and eat right) to lower our weight.
And there's my blood pressure that I was quite nervous about, given my high blood pressure with the last two pregnancies. Well, it was a pleasant surprise to find out that my BP is good!!
The thing that was less than exciting was my glucose! Oka...my A1C was a 7.5 (not good). For reference --A normal A1C level is below 5.7%, a level of 5.7% to 6.4% indicates prediabetes, and a level of 6.5% or more indicates diabetes. Within the 5.7% to 6.4% prediabetes range, the higher your A1C, the greater your risk is for developing type 2 diabetes.
I was prediabetic after Lani and now I'm diabetic. Booooooo
The doctor prescribed me medication (metformin) and gave a referral to a nutritionist and eye doctor. But never he asked if I felt like I could make the lifestyle changes necessary to reverse diabetes. Sooooerrrr....
I am pretty determined to get up, get active, and shock the hell out of the doctor at my follow up next month. It was exactly what I needed to hear because now I'm eeeeeexxtrraa heated that he would just assume I'm not serious about making the necessary lifestyle changes. Irritz lol
or maybe I'm lowkey just mad at myself and blaming the doctor for just giving me the facts hahahahahahh....NAH!! LOL
Anyways...if you're wondering how Aljay's health is. Well, his A1C was great. His heart rate was great and so was his blood pressure. He was just told to lose weight in order to prevent any future complications. Which I do celebrate and am very happy to hear!
But...we haven't heard anything back regarding our bloodwork. No news is usually good news, but you can never be too sure! I'll be keeping a close eye on all our numbers. Best believe!
Ugh!
AAAAggh!!
Ok, it's Sunday so I'm going to take my motivated self to the kitchen to prep my lunch for work tomorrow LOL
But I'll leave on this motivational affirmation---
