August | Beast of a Month

Oh my life....I don't even know where to begin...

We've been so freeeken busy I cannot even fathom how we've been able to keep up with everything!!!
Let's see...where do we start? Okayyy...so let's start with Aljay....

Sagato Mural
Aljay was comissioned to do the Sagato's mural for their new bakery that is opening up 1st week of October! But he wanted to start and finish it before the furniture was installed and before all the scaffolds were removed. So he started it second week of August and finished it in about 7 days. It turned out soooo beautiful! First mural in the books! He would wait for me to come home from work, then leave to work on the mural during the night. He usually came home around 3 or 4am.

Aliitasi Dance Classes
Then of course the kids are still doing dance classes with Aliitasi. Twice a week we would take them to practice. They had to learn a Maori dance (action and poi) and a Tahitian ote'a for a performance at the Poly Days festival.

Back to School
Leila and Sefa started back to school. Luckily I was able to attend their back to school nights and meet their teachers. I'm happy to say that they both have some awesome teachers.

PEAU Art Exhibit "Masima"
Aljay participated in an all Poly artist/multi medium art exhibit run by PEAU. It was a one day thing and Aliitasi elite group actually performed at it as well. It was fun..but we had to still set up the Weber exhibit on the day of the event. Lots of traveling that weekend.

Here's a few pics from of some of the artists.

The outfits in the picture below were all made from reusable material.

Here's one of the dresses I thought was really pretty.

Weber State | Art of the Pacific Art Exhibit
Aljay was the main exhibitor for this event. His pieces are up from Aug 27th-Sept 6th. Suuuper nice set up and we got work with Monique Ho Ching (who is also one of the sisters who started Pasifika First Fridays)...such a joy to work with her and Lulu from the Weber multicultural department.

Poly Days Festival- Labor Day Weekend
The Poly Days Festival is 3 days (Fri, Sat, Monday). The kids had their main performance on Saturday and then a little side gig on Monday.

As soon as the Weber exhibit opening night was done, Aljay and I switched gears and put all our energy into costume making and dance practices for the kid's performance. It was so much work and a lot of late nights of weaving, cutting, and cleaning.....but at the end of the day we had the joy and privilege of watching our two oldest kids take the stage for the first time. They performed on Saturday just before the last band.

It was so much fun getting them ready and watching them get nervous before going on stage. Leila and Sefa did so awesome! Aljay and I had so much fun being "dance parents" hahaha. So proud of our babies.

One of my favorite things is that they get to dance with their cousins; Naomi (Julia & Malakai Mokofisi's daughter), Milan (Gloria & Tali Taala's daughter), Losi girl (Rachel & Mike Kumar's bebe girl) and of course everyone that has become hanai family.

Monday's Performance
On Monday Sefa had the chance to fireknife for the Polyday Festival Luau. He danced with Matthew and Buddah. Aljay said they all did good but the wind was so strong that the boys all ended up dropping lol. They're so cute though!

I wanted to go with them but I was getting ready to dance with the Aliitasi older girls for Josh Tatofi. Yessss my chubby self came out of retirement just cause there was an opportunity to dance for Josh Tatofi....but forreals tho....I was dancing because I found out Travis was there and singing! I couldn't pass up this opportunity to dance with my cousin singing. Travis, Uncle Milton, and Kuhio are my most favorite trio to dance with....but hey Josh Tatofi and Pepz aren't too bad either LOL

After the concert they had one feed at the Manuma's, hosting Josh Tatofi, Pepz, Trav, and Josh's Dad. The jam sesh was meeaaannnn!!!! Catching up with Travis was meaner!

So many good things but oka it's almost 3am. The kids went to bed about an hour ago and I have a meeting at work at 9 LOL.....I am going to die tomorrow ahahahha and Aljay went back to the house to help Matt clean up.....oka oka for tomorrow we die ugly

But I aint even mad. We had one awesome weekend and now we look forward to another busy month that entails....3 art shows for Aljay, busy season for me at work, kids getting into the swing of things, and my parents prepping to go back to Samoa.

I'm pretty sure we'll be on the road heaps and eating on the go....

God be with us.
