Family Updates

September is almost over?!?!?! (oh wait...it is over)
What the heck! How does time slip pass us like that! So sneaky sneaky.
Well...I guess it's been a while since the last update. So here goes.

Getting Settled
Fall is settling in and the summer heat is finally dying off. We've adjusted to our new schedule and living quarters. The two older kids are settling into their schools nicely. They were very nervous to start at a new school but they have become more familiar with the new school routines and are doing well.

ROOCI changes
Aljay has pulled back on his involvement with ROOCI for a few reasons, first one being that he wants more time with family. He had been so busy with ROOCI that he felt like he was missing valuable time with the little ones especially. So he decided to slow down with ROOCI and budget his time in a way that benefits the family more. He's so much happier now. The babies are too. We all are.

I was a bit surprised when he told me that he wanted to pull back from ROOCI (after all it is his first business baby and he's put so much into it! We both have!) But after talking with him, I let him know that I will support whatever he decides. He's been much happier ever since and there are no hard feelings between him and Joe. He still holds a percentage in the business and will help out as needed, but the major day to day decision making is now in Joe's hands alone. Luckily, everyone has walked out of the conversation with mutual respect and relationships in tact.

Working FullTime & Missing the kids
I've been missing the kids more and more as I get into the busiest time at work. I have several evening events and travel time, but I'm saving up all my comp hours for when I give birth. We don't get paid extra for any overtime hours but my boss is really nice and lets us keep track of our overtime as "comp hours". We get to use these comp hours to get time off for whatever we need. I only get two weeks of maternity leave, so I'm saving up all my comp hours, vacation time, and sick days for when I give birth. I'm still not sure if I'll come back to work since we are trying to go to Samoa as well. But  at the same time, I don't know if I will need to keep working or if things will pick up with our investments (more about that below). We'll just have to wait and see.

Housing Updates
We still have boxes in the garage (of our current place) that we have to go through, and things in storage that we need to sort out before moving to the new house. I've been trying to get rid of more things and get stuff organized for when we have to move again in two months. There has been a lot of progress with the new house. Aljay has been stopping by every day now to see the progress on the house. It's amazing how quick things get going once the foundation is done and the first floor is placed.

This pic below is what the lot looked like for a while.

And then as soon as the foundation was finished...things started picking up real quick! Here are pics from the last week of Sept. You can really see the day to day progress.

Basement pau!

Main level framing going up!

It's exciting....it's going to be a busy next couple of months!!

Financial 101
We've also been working on our finances to make sure we are in a good position once we close on the new house. Yes, we are splitting the mortgage payment with our parents, but we want to be able to pay off the house for them.

We started with Financial 101 in February and have been working with our instructor for the past couple of months to get our finances in order. I originally initiated the conversation with Aljay and got us to the first presentation, and ever since then Aljay has been hooked. He's done more research about it and has learned so much over the past two months alone. It's really quite impressive how well he has grasped the concepts of money and cash flow and investments and banking....so much so that we are really at the point where we aren't looking at ROOCI as a source of income, but more so a side project (if you get what I mean).

It's crazy that for the first time ever, the burden of finances and income have been lifted off of Aljay's shoulders...mine as well....but more so for him as the leader and provider in our home. It's been amazing to see how that has changed Aljay's mood and optimism about the future of our finances. He's even been going back to the gym now and has ordered his supplements lol...the ones that we never had money for hahaha. And he's continuously researching and learning more, which he gets really excited about...which I get really excited about....because it means I won't have to work very much longer (by very much longer I mean I hope to quit work a few months after baby is born).

Keiki
The kids have been great. A few sicknesses when the weather temperatures decided to drop all of a sudden, but other than that they are doing well.  I'll have to do a separate post on them. This one has gotten pretty long.
