March 2025 - Health Update
- Blood pressure 126/84 (woohoo! I was nervous because my home BP monitor has been showing high readings so now I think the blood pressure cuff is not accurate)
- Dr. prescribed Ozempic to help with my diabetes (oh okaaay skinny gorrrl lessgooo!!! hahahahaha)
- I listened to a podcast a while ago about GLP-1s and semiglutides and I'm not feeling nervous about giving it a try
March 5 - Picked up my prescription
and guess what.....ozempic is covered by my insurance. Finally!!! A diabetes medicine that can help AND is covered by my insurance. We've tried Metformin and that wrecked my gut. We tried Jardiance and Monjargo and both were $400 - $500 for a 30-day supply. No thanks. I'm grateful this is covered. Now we'll just see if there are side effects.
Having a high A1C and type 2 diabetes is not something I take lightly. Even with diet restrictions, I have had to eat no carbs, no sugar, and no fruit to get my blood glucose within range. It's not sustainable or realistic. Should I put more effort into working out? yes absolutely. But let's be real....I'm not consistent enough to see changes.
March 10 - First week on Ozempic
Took my first dose (.25 mgs) yesterday (Sunday). I recognize that this medicine can help, but if I don't make lifestyle changes, I will probably gain some of the weight back after I get off this medicine. Here's my gameplan--
- Exercise - Aim for 125 minutes a week of activity.
- Eat Properly - focus on protein, hydration, and avoiding greasy foods and sugar
- Sleep - Get 7-8 hours of sleep at night
March 12 - First side effects
Noticing bad breath. Annoying. Ozempic is supposed to slow your digestion, which could mean food staying in your system longer...ewww
Maybe I need to add some pro-biotics to my regime. I have a bottle of apple cider vinegar in my desk at work but I need to be better and remembering to drink some before my lunch.
Our ward is doing is fasting for the month of March. Our family decided to do a fast from sugar. Why did I have a headache by the end of the day lol My glucose levels were good but I could tell my body has been reliant on sugar and needed a detox. It was good to see the kids joining in though.
March 27 - 3rd Week on Ozempic
Happy to report that the bad breath situation has subsided, but I carry minty gum all the time just in case lol
I also try to eat regular meals (i.e. breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner). I'm terrible at eating breakfast. I need to prep ready-to-go breakfastes or wake up earlier to make food.
BG- my morning fasting readings have been coming down to a better range.
March 28 - Forgot to mention.
I'm not snoring as badly as before. I'm sure Aljay appreciates that! lol
