Quick Health update

Here's a little progress report on my health journey.

STATS

Starting weight:    233 lbs (3/21/22)
Weigh In:              222 lbs (4/9/22)

A1C Check:           7.5 (2/28/22)
AIC Check :          6.5 (4/26/22)

Weight went down!
A1C went down!

Woohoo!!!

Things that have been working

  • Intermittent fasting
    • (eating window from 12pm - 8pm). I typically fast 5-7 days out of the week.

  • Keto/low carb
    • I know restrictive diets statistically do not have long-lasting sustainability. However, the more I continue to learn, the better equipped I become for when I am finally at maintenance level.
Tips I've learned that have also helped--
  • The order in which you eat food can affect your glucose spikes. Try to eat in this order-- greens/veggies, protein/fats, and then carbs last

  • Apple cider vinegar helps with lowering glucose spikes. I add a teaspoon of ACV in my big 40oz water bottle and sip on it throughout the day. I've found it helpful especially when fasting.

  • MOVE after a meal. Take 10 minutes after a meal to walk/move around to help your muscles use up the glucose that is being circulated in the bloodstream.

Moving forward I want to...

  • Exercise more. Specifically, weight training. I feel like it has become easier to make healthy food choices. Now I need to get myself mentally on board with exercise.

  • Be consistent with my medications. I was not consistent when I went in for my check up in April.

  • Monitor my glucose levels. I finally signed up for Livongo through UVU benefits. They sent me a glucose monitor with lancets and test strips. Best of all it's FREE. We like free. It's been really nice to have on hand for those days when I accidentally drop too low or go up too high. It has helped me establish a baseline. I've been tracking for two weeks now.

  • Continue eating a low carb diet.

Reflection:

I'm really proud of myself and my efforts. It hasn't been easy, but I've learned to put in a few treats now and then to avoid becoming highly irritable and dragon like hahahah.

I do get frustrated when the kids eat up all the low-carb/keto food, especially when it's the only thing I can eat. Like avocados....they looooove avocados lol.

I have to plan carefully when we go out. It's so easy to snack on whatever with the kids when we have to run around to games.

However, I am motivated to get off the medication that I'm on. I take medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. I want to get to the point of only taking vitamins and supplements.

Thanks self for all you are doing and trying to do! Let's get our weight down a bit more! I want to be in the 210 - 212 lbs range by mid June. If I can get below 200 by my birthday aaaaaahhhh that would be the best gift to myself!!

I guess it's a goal now!

GOALS to complete by July 7th, 2022
