New School, New Parent Phase, New Job

Man, August just flew on by and boy has it been just full of some big "firsts" and new beginnings.

To start off...

NEW SCHOOL
The first two munchkins of our tribe started their first year of school at Geneva Elementary!
Leila started Kindergarten and Sefa started Preschool :)

 annnndd they loved it!

We'll come on...it's kindergarten and preschool...they better love it cause these first years of school are the best...everything after sort of goes down hill lol. I thought I was going to cry when we took them to school but I was pretty happy-nervous for them! I think I was more excited to go home and "relax" with the lone ranger Viiga. My man adjusted well to his new responsibilities of having to do morning chores by himself. He gets really excited when his siblings get home :)

New Family Tradition- First Day of School Breakfast
We wanted to do something special for the kids first day of school and decided to make it family tradition to have a special breakfast for the first day of school. The kids were excited but almost too excited to eat. They kept asking if it was time yet to leave for school and taking only little bites here and there. I made them hot breakfast throughout the end of the week in hopes they would sit and enjoy....but they were always too excited to eat! If only they knew how spoiled they are! Even though we had to keep reminding them to take more bites, we really enjoy having a nice hot breakfast with them. I decided I'll make sure they have a hot meal every school day, with cold cereal and milk once a week. Lol yeah we'll see how long that lasts haha. #excitedmom

First Time Father's Blessings
Aljay and I grew up receiving a Father's blessing at the beginning of every year. This year was the first time our kids received a Father's blessing before their first year of school. What a sweet and special moment it was to witness Aljay place his hands upon their little heads and give them a Father's blessing. Aljay was excited to have this opportunity and we all could feel the warmth of the Holy Spirit as the blessings were being pronounced. So grateful for the Priesthood and the worthy Priesthood holder that leads our family.

NEW PARENT PHASE
I feel like we're now in the "school" phase. You know.... where we are confined by the start and ending time of school. Where your day is structured around pick up and drop off. We now prep and pack lunches for little mouths with hope that they'll actually eat it.

[of course at the end of the first week of school I get a notice that Leila's lunch account that we never put money into is -$7...i checked her account online and saw that she's been eating caf lunch!!! No wonder she would come home and still have half her lunch in her bag...eeeeghh!!]

The terms "carpool" and "Parent Volunteer" are now a part of our vocabulary.

[Don't worry I didn't let my over-eager-inner-volunteer-so'o self sign us up for ANYTHING....I'm too pregnant fo dat! I've learned my limits lol

 Haha...like I mentioned above...it's been a transition.

Parenting Fail
So after two days of the kids being in school, Aljay and I were talking about our first camping trip with a few families and friends. We had planned to go set up camp Friday morning. Then Thursday night it dawned on us that hello the kids have school! Which meant we couldn't set up until Leila got back from school at 3:30pm. DUH!!! And then I realized that Sefa (who had gone with Lahvjal that evening) needed to come home because he had school Friday morning! It's like we thought the kids were only going to be in school for a two days or something...so fail.

NEW JOB
Working from Home w/ your Spouse
This month has been interesting as Aljay and I started our new "jobs"... it's nice being able to work with each other, being able to set our own schedules, working from home....but it also takes a lot of discipline and really being organized. With the kids now in school, we're really trying to find our schedule and get into a rhythm.

Sometimes when we're out and about running errands, Aljay will turn and say to me "man this is so nice to be working with you." It's funny cause in the home I'm the boss (well at least that's what I like to think) and at "work" Aljay's the "boss". And now we work from home..together...you can image how that must go hahaha....

nah nah it really hasn't been bad lol. Sometimes I snap at him and sometimes he snaps at me, but really we just try to keep each other in check. Sometimes I joke around and say to him "oh I just got the job cause I'm sleeping with the boss" hehehe. Nah but it really helps that both of us are clueless at all the business related paperwork that goes into starting up so we both can't let our fiapoko itch flare up.

This graph sums up exactly the things we have learned in the past two weeks!

And this is one is exactly us!

Balancing Work and Home Duties
It's been tricky trying to find a balance between getting work done and keeping up with the wifey and motherly duties. It really helps that the kids are now on a schedule. It brings structure to our days. The first week of school really got us into somewhat of a routine (which I do like), but we're also able to find some flexibility (which we all like).

This past weekend we were able to combine work and family time by attending a Polynesian festival in North Salt Lake. The kids had fun, we were able to sell shirts (just from people seeing our shirts and asking where they could get one), check out other vendors, eat good food, and see some old friends and family!

First Family Camping Trip
We ended the kids first week of school with our first family camping trip. We went camping for one day up in the Provo Canyon at this campsite called Nuns Park. We only camped for one day (thankgoodness cause my preggo self could only handle one day lol). It was a fun camping trip, catching the last bit of summer before Fall creeps up on us.

We camped with a few family friends- the Savainaeas (Nate and Lola), the Levi's (Our Camp Director Michael and Joy), Glo and Kaeo (Lola's sister and her husband), and the Fuimaonos (Lahvjal and Penny). That night we had more family and friends stop by and hang out!!! The Tafitis (Tehina and Julius), the Utah Tafitis (Bob and Emily), and the Hubers (Ed and Nina). The kids and adults had soooo much fun!

I'll post pics eventually :)

August... you have been good to us. September...please bring us some nice cool weather :)
