LOVE GENERAL CONFERENCE WEEKEND!!!

*Late post*

I've been starting and never finishing blog posts and now that I have some time I'm happy I get to sit down and finish what I started. #explainingit

Let's start off with the best weekend of April which is the weekend of......

I'm always super excited and anxious for general conference weekend!!!! More so now than ever before in my life.

As a kid I was excited because I looked forward to not having to get up and get ready for "normal church."

In my youth I was excited because conference meant I could hear some inspirational words and get away with a nap at the same time....and probably still a little happy that we had church on TV.

Then I matured (just a little) and as a single adult I looked forward to receiving answers and guidance while on my journey of self-discovery, growing independence, and spiritual growth. hmmm...I think I'm still on that journey lol

And then I got married and started having kids. Since then, I've never been more eager, anxious, and hungry to hear the words of our Prophet and leaders. As a mother, wife, and woman I need all the divine help I can get. The counsel, advice, testimonies, and talks from general conference are always uplifting, encouraging, and a good slap-in-the-face (I mean that in the best way).

It is challenging to be able to hear all the talks and feel the Spirit, especially with the two toddlers, but we try our best and find comfort in knowing that modern technology will allow us to always go back and watch or read the talks. So grateful for today's technology!!! Especially since Aljay had to work during the Saturday morning session.

This time around I tried my best to have little quiet activities for them to do during conference. Thanks to our bomb Orem 9th ward Primary leaders, each kid in our ward was given an activity packet to do during conference. Life saver!!! Saved me from having to camp on pinterest and try be creative.

I prepped spiritually by spending the week before writing down questions and concerns that I have had as a Mother and Wife. I also prayed everyday that the kids would behave and be able to feel the Spirit.

It's amazing how things turned out. The kids didn't sit all nice and reverent for all the sessions, but they were occupied with their quiet activities during every talk that I needed to hear and that answered my questions and concerns.

I wrote all my thoughts/feelings/learned lessons/impressions/notes/goals/awesome quotes/etc... in my journal and I look forward to going back and reading all the talks and adding to my list of things to work on.

I also wanted to start some family traditions to make conference even more memorable.  Here's a few simple things we tried and will hopefully keep as traditions...

  1. FHE Lesson related to General Conference (done before conference)...
For this we just taught the kids to recognize the First Presidency. They're still working on saying the names right.
  2. Sunday Breakfast/ Just have good FoodWe had a nice Sunday breakfast that we usually wouldn't have time for, especially in the past because we've always had to wake up and watch conference at 6am to catch it live.We started off the Sunday conference sessions with a hearty breakfast of chocolate chip banana pancakes, eggs, toast, and fruit.
Then during the break the kids made chocolate covered strawberries and bananas to snack on during the second session.
Then we had some brisket (which we rarely get to have), rice, and asparagus for lunch after the last session.
  3. Reverent Activity
We wrote letters to our missionaries.

Oh and this happened...

Aljay decided Sefa needed to symbolically shed himself of his sins and do so by getting rid of his long hair. LOL just kidding. The kid just needed a haircut.

Within an hour my cute little sweet boy matured into a handsome not so little two year old. He looked (and still looks) so different, but I do enjoy the ease of fixing his hair now. Hopefully we don't make this one a tradition.

It was such a relaxing and wonderful weekend- being uplifted, edified, and renewed. I LOVE GENERAL CONFERENCE WEEKEND!
